YAKUL

Biography

Brighton-based four-piece Yakul has established a unique position in the UK jazz and R&B scene, known for their Future Soul style and polyrhythmic dexterity. Their latest project, Outlines, was released in May 2023, receiving support from BBC Radio 1, Radio 6 Music, Jazz FM, and more. The EP featured singles 'Take Flight' and 'The Space', with a focus on 'Time To Lose' featuring soulful songwriter Adi Oasis. The band surpassed 6 million streams across DSPs and sold out London's Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club for the second time.

Yakul's debut album, Rise Indigo, won support from Gilles Peterson, Jamz Supernova, and more. Their debut EP, Getting Late, was released in 2019, with 'Blossoming' being voted #6 Track of the Year on Gilles Peterson's Worldwide Awards 2020. In August 2023, Yakul recorded their first live album with Pizza Express Live in Holborn, featuring saxophonist Camilla George.

The band is currently working on a new album, a collaboration resulting from countryside writing retreats and experimental jam sessions. The new album promises a more mature selection of tracks with eccentric production and heavy use of a reel-to-reel tape machine.
