Biography

Since her explosive debut in 2017, Joyce Wrice’s music career has continued to soar, propelled by her unwavering dedication to her craft as a bonafide independent R&B recording artist, songwriter, and dancer. Raised in San Diego by a Japanese mother and Black father, Joyce found solace as an only child by observing her surroundings, eventually discovering her passion for music in the passenger’s seat of her father’s car. Known for her distinct tone, personal yet relatable lyrics, and electrifying live performances, Joyce Wrice’s artistry deeply resonates with this generation. 

Joyce solidified her star status with the release of her debut album, Overgrown, in March 2021. The record showcased her undeniable talent seamlessly alongside an impressive roster of contemporaries, including Freddie Gibbs, Lucky Daye, KAYTRANADA, Masego, Westside Gunn, UMI, and more. Distributed independently via Sony Music/The Orchard andexecutive produced by multiple GRAMMY Award winner D’Mile, Overgrown made an immediate impact, earning Wrice numerous 2022 artist-to-watch accolades from Apple Music, Amazon MusicBillboard, BET, Nylon, Hypebae, and Okayplayer, as well as highly coveted spots on NPR and Rolling Stone’s Best R&B Albums of 2021 year-end lists. Following the album’s overwhelming success, Joyce embarked on her inaugural nationwide tour as the special guest on GRAMMY Award winner Lucky Daye’s 26-date North American Candydrip TourShe also graced major festival stages at Day N Vegas, Sol Blume, Cross The Tracks, and Broccoli City.
In October 2022, Wrice made a triumphant return with the vibrant Motive EP, an experimental dance project featuring GRAMMY Award winner KAYTRANADA’s signature production. Bolstered by the lead single “Iced Tea”, which received a Kill Bill-inspired music video, the infectious summer track became Wrice’s most successful streaming hit to date surpassing 15 million streams. In a career-defining performance commemorating her critically acclaimed musical output from the last two years, Joyce delivered a dynamic NPR Tiny Desk Concert that revitalized both projects, accumulating 1 million YouTube views. Wrice finished 2022 strong by performing headline shows in Los Angeles, New York City, Chicago, and Toronto, as well as her first sold out concerts in Japan.
Following in the illustrious footsteps of Solange and Destiny’s Child, Wrice can currently be heard as the theme song vocalist for The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder streaming exclusively on Disney+.  She has also featured in brand campaigns with Reebok, Nike, Levi’s, Flight Club, Vans, Hyundai, and Lexus to name a few. 
Joyce is currently in the studio placing the finishing touches on her eagerly anticipated sophomore album set to drop in 2024. She continues to make a name for herself by collaborating with today’s rising stars having most recently appeared on songs byMasego, Braxton CookJordan Ward, MahaliaMnelia, and Dylan Sinclair. When not planted in the studio, Joyce commits her time to practicing Buddhism, traveling the world, and X.
